Business on the Rise - Subsea

True to its reputation for producing the most challenging piping components, and in the quickest possible timeframe, Linvic has recently delivered the first of many Stress Joints for SCR's - Steel Catenary Risers - to a Houston-based oil company. A similar order for another operator is currently in hand. At 11 metres long, weighing 1200 kilos and precision machined and drilled their entire length, these components will replace traditional ball and socket swivel joints on the tops of riser pipes, which bring oil and gas from the seabed to the platform. The quality of steel used, plus heat treatment and engineering tolerances, are critical to achieving the correct specification. Stress Joints are tapered and rely on the natural flexibility of steel over a long length, rather than the moving parts of the old design. They are much better suited for use with very heavy and long (up to 3km) riser pipes and will outlast their predecessors by many years.

This first order, and Linvic's capabilities generally, were the focus of much attention at the Subsea Tieback Forum & Exhibition (SSTB) in Galveston, Texas, 03-05 March. Linvic's Export Sales Manager, Steve Swinden, said, "We have produced a great many flanges and other forged components for projects in the Gulf of Mexico and this was the ideal Forum to be seen in. I was so impressed by the quantity and quality of visitors, that on Day 2 of the show I booked a booth double the size for SSTB 2009!"
